When you say "west rim", are you talking about "Grand Canyon West" (ie the Native American commercial operation where Skywalk is located)?

One attraction mentioned in this post

The "West rim" is what the Hualapai Tribe has begun to call their portion of the canyon It is not part of Grand Canyon National Park

That said, the drive time is about 4 hoursThe Hualapai Legacy Package and the Legacy Gold Package. I believe the road out to the Hualapai overlooks is still unpaved

There is no place to stay near the "West Rim" on the way to Las Vegas The closest places would be Kingman AZ or the Las Vegas area "Grand Canyon West" is about a 50 mile detour one-way off the route from GCNP to Las Vegas It is about 250 miles from GCNP SR to GCW; GCNP SR to Las Vegas itself is 270 miles

If you intend to go to GCW, do not use a map service or GPS for directions as they will take you on a very bad road from Kingman through the Hualapai reservation Going north on US 93 from Kingman AZ, take the turnoff to Dolan Springs and follow signs to GCW The last 15 miles is a poorly maintained dirt road where rental cars should not be taken, but you will encounter a "Park and Ride" service before that point

After seeing GCNP, GCW would be anti-climactic and expensive Read the "Top Questions" on this subject at top right in this forum

When you are in GCNP, you will see the "west rim" as defined in the park on the West Rim/Hermit's Rest Road This has nothing to do with the native park at GCW

Thank you all o much We're staying a night at the Grand Canyon Ranch which is very close to the west rim from what I can gather so I thought we would view the west rim

This is on the same route as GCW, 50 mile detour from the direct route to Las Vegas This will take more than an hour to drive Part of it is unpaved Also, you will not be able to see the Grand Canyon from there You will have to go to the native park as described above, where you have to pay to get in to take their bus to overlooks where you can see the canyon For $30 per person plus tribal taxes and fees you can wait for and take a shuttle bus to 2 viewpoints

Make sure you view the real west rim at GCNP SR before you leave the park
